Salem’s Fourth of July in 130 Seconds

Yes, I’m always raving about the wonderful fireworks that we have here in Salem but do I ever get a photo of them? No way!  I try, but I’m just not there yet. So here’s a great video of our 4th of July celebration as it unfolds. If you look closely your sure to see Michael and the kids walking on the wharf 😉 .  Next post will be about gardening, I promise!    Enjoy!  Michele

What’s Happening in the Garden

It’s always fun to return after a good amount of time away from the garden to see the changes.

Here’s what we came home to this week after our twelve day road trip.

Our pot of potatoes took off!

The bee balm had bloomed

along with the lavender

.

The cucumbers had come along nicely.

Maybe this will be a good year for cucumbers since I only planted a few?

The carrots needed  weeding and thinning asap.

There were plenty of peas for the 4th..

Did you know that in the state of Maine salmon and peas is the traditional Fourth of July dinner?

It was time to pinch back the basil!

And the zucchini had done it’s thing

along with the Roma tomatoes!

It really felt like magic to come back to this.

What are you growing?

How are things in your garden?

Leave a comment! I’d love to hear from you!

A Few Things Happened…

First, I forgot my camera. I hate that.  I spent the evening reaching for my camera, which I didn’t have with me.

Second, It was a lovely evening. We met our good friends at the Custom House, enjoyed wonderful music, kids activities and saw lots and lots of friends and neighbors. Michael was working but it’s one of his favorite events, so that was okay.

Third, my middle daughter and her friends actually met one of their favorite characters from the Hunger Games movie (who’s name I can’t remember, sorry!). The new Grown Ups  movie is being filmed in the area, so there have been many celebrity sightings in town over the past month or so.  Adam Sandler, Chris Rock and lots of younger actors who they know from tv… my kids have been enjoying this.

Fourth, about an hour before the fireworks were to start a dark cloud started to form just behind the wharf area. I took my youngest kids to play on the beach for a little while and watched it hoping that the cloud would move south or west or north.. It just sat there and slowly darkened.  What ensued is best described in this Salem News Article:

We did have the advantage of being able to duck into my husbands workplace to watch through a window during the lightening. It was nice to look around and see all five of my kids and several of their friends safely there.

As I said a few weeks ago, there’s nothing like the fourth of July in Salem!

Tomorrow, a garden update!  Time to get out there and weed. It’s amazing how much things change in our  garden in two weeks.

Thanks for stopping in!

Enjoy everything~

The Fourth of July at Salem Willows

We are back from our road trip just in time for the 4th of July in Salem! We got up early this morning and headed down to the Willows neighborhood for their annual Horribles parade and party. There’s no place else like the Willows on the fourth of July. The whole neighborhood has a party and many of us who live in other parts of the city go down to enjoy it too.

Here’s our friend, Jane Dionne!

Of course there was music..

and some social/political commentary.

The Secret Service were there

like you’ve never seen them before

The “mayor” marched too, as she does every year…

The game theme was fun and creative.

There were red drinking cups… I think I kind of  missed the message here, leave a comment if you can help me with that. They were having a great time!

The decorations are amazing!

beautiful

patriotic

and fun!

It’s a party like no other!

Happy Fourth! Tomorrow there may be fireworks, let’s hope that my camera works..

I’m so happy to be home and blogging again!!
