The plants I have here for our garden club are blooming nicely in pots I love the color but we need to sell them so they go into a GARDEN!

Michele, what do I do about a pot that I found today overflowing with water from the recent storm? I’m afraid of root rot? Obviously it is not draining well but not sure what to do now?

    1. what kind of plant(s) are in it Bob? Is it small enough that you can tip it and gently drain the water out? I’d do that if possible… or try to drill a hole or two in the bottom of the pot (you would want to do that anyway). The same thing happened to me today with all of my new deck planters. I thought they had drain holes but it turns out they didn’t so Michael and his brother spent some time this morning fixing that.

Just some annuals – begonias and petunias. There are drainage holes, but it’s a big pot and I didn’t’ put any stone or anything in the bottom to help with drainage. I did tip it but the soil still looks very soggy. If it dries out and the plants are fine, great. If not and they struggle, guess I’ll have to dig it out, put in some stones at the bottom to help with drainage and refill.

      2. I’ve had the same problem Bob… even with a few of my pots that have holes. The rain can’t wash through fast enough 😦 Hopefully they’ll be okay if you drain them well, there’s a good chance that they will be.
